The works in Refried Beans were experimental reworkings of visions, experiences ideas and artworks from our residency and exhibition in New Mexico.
A framed concept drawing accompanied large mixed media wall pieces and a printed and hand quilted ‘brainbag’.
Abstracted landscape drawings from their time in the desert, were framed and set into soft wall hangings. The dreamlike representational images on the quilted hangings were constructed digitally from ornamental fragments of other drawings from the series.
A large painted, CNC machined mdf relief titled ‘Willard, nearly Vaughn’ reimagined facades from ghost towns, passed through on road trips in the high plains, as interior design with printed fleece kneckerchifes and towels and painted polymer clay sculptures that combined lizard tail forms with cactus flowers.

These are displayed on a wall partially painted in purple, with textile and other objects hanging and peeping through holes. The push and pull of 2 and 3 dimensions. The pieces are large and heavy, but they have the quality of preliminary sketches.”
